Storing Away Onions

Storing Away Onions

Harvest - once the leaves turn yellowish and you can see the onion has grown fully.

Drying - I dried mine in the greenhouse for 2 weeks. They need to be completely dry before you string them.

Prep your dried onions - I cut the stems of the onions to 3 inches, and trimmed off any excess root, and brushed the soil off.

Hang - I made a loop of twine, and hung it on a hook. Then I wrapped the tops of each of the onions around the twine. As the onions stack up, their weight tightens the noose at the bottom and pinches the onions in place.

Storage - I’m storing mine in an overhang that’s out of sunlight and airy. Along with our garlic and lavender

Oh the satisfaction in getting my onions stored for the autumn winter is fantastic!!
